4/9/16 - Meg Tietz: "Playful Process"

4/5/2016

Join us on the campus of William Paterson University on Saturday April 9, 2016 (9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.) as clinician Meg Tietz presents a workshop titled "Playful Process." When people talk about Orff Schulwerk, especially if they are not Orff teachers themselves, the description often centers around the use of the Orff Instrumentarium. However, while these instruments are delightfully enjoyed by children and adults alike, they are only a fraction of what Orff is all about. Orff teachers know that the truly magical part is really in the process, the playful exploration and discovery that is inherent within the Schulwerk. In fact, although many of the pieces found in the primary source materials of Orff and Keetman are written for the barred instruments, they are not limited to use in that media alone. This workshop will explore pieces, poetry, and activities through all four media: singing, saying, dancing, and playing, and through each of the four levels of experience: imitation, exploration, improvisation and creation. Visit our registration page for more information.

3/5/2016 - Paul Weller: One Poem, Infinite Possibilities: Creating Independent Musicians Through Elemental Music

Join us March 5, 2016 on the campus of William Paterson University for a workshop with clinician Paul Weller (9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.)! The workshop will focus on the similarities between many different methodologies and how an Orff-focussed classroom can achieve literacy-based concepts and foster student independence. Participants will experience strategies to create successful improvisation and composition experiences, assessment tools to help propel students quicker towards musical independence, as well as how to use less repertoire to achieve more literacy. Visit our registration page for more information.

Paul Weller has been teaching elemental music for the past 12 years in Minnesota to grades 1-5. He earned a B.A from St. Olaf College, M.A. in Education from Saint Mary’s University and Orff- Schulwerk Certification from University of St. Thomas.
