2024-25 Professional Development Workshop Series
Workshops will be held in person at William Paterson University in Hunziker Hall Room 101
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 21 (9:00AM-1:00PM)
KEVIN BRADY PRESENTS
"FROM SEED TO GARDEN: CULTIVATING MANY MUSICAL EXPERIENCES FROM ONE TINY SEED"
The greatest gardeners know that sometimes the best way to cultivate a beautiful garden is not to plant the most seeds, but to get the most out of the seeds you have. The same is true in music and movement education! In this workshop, participants will experience what it is like to start with a small seed of an idea--a game, a song, a dance, a children’s book--and grow that idea in as many ways possible.
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 19 (9:00AM-1:00PM)
CHRISTINE BALLENGER PRESENTS
"KEEP IT SIMPLE: DO MORE WITH LESS!"
Our jobs as general music educators can be complex– typically teaching five or six different grade levels during the course of a week, each with its own content and skills. But with this challenge comes the opportunity to teach students multiple years in a row where we can build on their skills and sequence our instruction. Here’s where I invite you to consider doing MORE with LESS– how can one song or experience apply to multiple areas of learning? How can a piece grow from a song and game in first grade into an arrangement of barred instruments and recorder improvisation in third or fourth grade? Experience several activities that can work with multiple grade levels, depending on the focus YOU want to have in your instruction!
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 23 (9:00AM-1:00PM)
AOSA NATIONAL CONFERENCE SHARE
SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 1 (9:00AM-1:00PM)
NNJOSA CHAPTER SHARE
SATURDAY, MARCH 8 (9:00AM-1:00PM)
KRIS OLSON PRESENTS
"THE MOVING CLASSROOM"
In this workshop, we’ll discover ways to strengthen musical skills and create avenues for creativity and growth by getting children moving. For our youngest students we’ll explore age-appropriate activities that utilize adapted folk dance, fanciful finger plays, and the world of pretend. For our older students, we’ll explore how limiting choices and developing clear structures can benefit the creative process. Most importantly we’ll experience the beautiful connection of music to movement and the vitality it can add to our teaching.
SATURDAY, APRIL 5 (9:00AM-1:00PM)
ROB DELGAUDIO PRESENTS
"MUSIC & NATURE"
Reconnect with the rejuvenating power of both music and nature. Explore through creativity and collaboration, infusing classrooms with the refreshing spirit of the outdoors. Join us for a day of harmonious learning and laughter, leaving with a toolkit to elevate your music teaching experience.
