Tyrone "Dancing Wolf" Ellis is a Wolf Clan member of the Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape Tribal Nation of New Jersey. He practices many cultural arts, such as rattle making, drum making, singing & drumming, regalia making, and beadwork. He was a recipient of the New Jersey Folk Arts Apprenticeship Grant, working under the tribe’s Chief to learn the creation of both Pow-Wow Drums and Water Drums and gained a residency from the Wheaton Arts to teach the younger generation of tribal youth. Tyrone has learned from numerous respected elders and knowledge holders amongst the tribe, including well known people such as Chief Mark “Quiet Hawk” Gould, Co- Chief Lewis “Grey Squirrel” Sonny Pierce, late grandmother Lorraine “Rainbow Walker” Gregg, Urie Ridgeway, and Will Mosley Sr. As his tribe’s Annual Pow-Wow and Program Coordinator he demonstrates the bulk of these arts to the public to promote healthy relationships while reducing stereotypes and ignorance of Native American Culture. WHERE: Zoom REGISTER: Visit our registration page Franklin Willis is a three-time CMA Foundation Music Teacher of Excellence and with more than a decade of experience in the classroom, Franklin Willis is a trailblazer and catalyst for change in the music education space, as well as a rising leader within the music industry at large. He is the Community Impact Director at the CMA Foundation, which paves the way for students to experience equitable access opportunities in the music industry beyond the classroom. Willis is a children’s book author and graduate of the University of Memphis with a Bachelor of Music Education with an emphasis in Choral Music in 2009. In 2012, he earned the Master of Education Degree in Nonprofit Leadership from Belmont University. Most recently Willis completed the Education Specialist Degree with an emphasis in Instructional Leadership from Tennessee Technological University. EXCITING NEWS! Williams-Casey, the founder and Artistic Director of Black Swan Ballet Company, is an experienced Elemental Music and Movement teacher, ballet teacher and choreographer, and certified interpreter for the Deaf. She is a certified Rommett Floor Barre® instructor and has studied directly with Camille Rommett in NYC to bring this exceptional technique to dancers in our region. She continues to study of the Orff Schulwerk method of music and movement and brings this experience to her classes as well as her extensive music, stage and education and experience. In this workshop, participants will explore tools to develop young musicians through activities which inspire compassion, courage, and confidence. She has taught for Durham Public Schools since 1997. She is a National Board Certified and has been honored by being a top four finalist for District Teacher of the Year and receiving the NC Symphony’s Jackson Pankhurst Award for Special Achievement in music education. She is also the Artistic Director for the Durham Children’s Choir (DCC), has been with the organization since its’ founding in 2004. An active member of the American Choral Directors Association and the American Orff-Schulwerk Association, Mrs. Byers has been a guest conductor for a All-State Honors Choirs in MS and TN as well as District All-County Choirs in NC, GA, FL and AL. She has presented workshops for Orff Schulwerk chapters throughout the US and at National AOSA Professional Development Conferences. Dena is an AOSA approved Teacher Educator and currently teaches Level II Orff Schulwerk at the University of Memphis. She received BA degrees in Music Education and Vocal Performance from the University of Connecticut, a Master of Music from the University of Minnesota and holds Level III and Master Level Orff Schulwerk Certifications from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas and the University of Memphis, respectively.
